What is consumer drone use versus commercial?
Personal drone use is purely for the fun of flight… from fulfilling your inner aviator dreams to take images and videos previously only accessible to professional crews. "Flying for Fun" does not include flying for work, compensation, or hire. According to the FAA's Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft, drone use for hobby is a "pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation." You don’t have to be a professional-- anyone can fly! No wonder drones have become the latest trending hobby.
What should I look for when buying a drone for personal use?
There are so many places to buy drones, and an almost overwhelming amount/types to choose from. Accucode Drones offers out-of-the-box, carefully selected bundles, with each drone’s specifications in mind. Accucode Drones come ready-to-fly, for any level of experience. We carefully hand-picked accessories in our bundles that we recommend for anyone. If you are more experienced, already own a drone and ready to upgrade, or need replacement parts, you can shop drone-by-drone per specifications, or for specific accessories. If you are new to drones, Accucode Drone’s consumer bundles are created to make getting started simple. Our expertise means that your drone is supported by the highest quality controllers, batteries, chargers, backpacks, and other accessories to support your hobby no matter where you take it. Most importantly, we have partnered with the most popular and reliable drone companies to make "Flying for Fun" nothing but fun. Be part of the drone community! Check our blogs and updates for the latest in news and contests.
Do I need to register my drone?
All drones need to be registered under one unique number with the FAA. Your unique drone ID number should be easily accessible: either visible on the outside, or inside an easy accessible battery compartment. If you sell your drone, you should remove this number from your drone.
Do I need permission from the FAA to fly a drone for fun?
There are two ways for consumers to operate in the National Airspace System in accordance with legal regulations. Please refer to the FAA’s "Flying for Fun" page for rules that apply to anyone using drones for personal use.
How do I know where it’s okay to fly my drone?
Check out the FAA’s mobile app called B4UFLY to easily see any restrictions or requirements "on the fly" when you’re out and about with your drone.
Do I need to tell airports when I want to fly recreationally?
No, you are not allowed to fly your drone within 5 miles from an airport or restricted air space without special permission
